Assessment Sr Web Developer (SPA)


The Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites – North Carolina
(CICS-NC) has immediate need for an experienced Senior Web Developer to
develop and implement Drupal CMS websites and applications for the
Climate Assessment Program under tight deadlines and production schedule.


In support of the Climate Assessment program, design, develop and
implement Drupal CMS websites and applications ensuring websites are
compliant with recognized standards, user friendly to diverse audiences,
and utilizing industry best practices. Key responsibilities and duties
will include the following:
- write programming code, new and/or by adapting existing website
software and graphics packages, to meet Climate Assessment Program needs;
- actively test website(s) to ensure websites are compliant with
recognized standards, user friendly to diverse audiences, and utilizing
industry best practices;
- proactively identify technical problems, for example, address HTML and
scripting compatibility issues between different browsers
- research latest web development techniques and strive for
standards-based implementation;
- design user experience that is intuitive (accessible and logical),
“bug” free and easy to maintain for diverse audience (government
officials, scientists, general public)
- perform maintenance and updates to sites as needed;
- coordinate multi-media projects across delivery platforms including
the web, online publishing and social media;
- provide work/time estimates to management; manage work and coordinated
cross-team efforts to meet tight deadlines and maintain production
schedule;
- work with cross-functional team to develop and maintain master content
calendar for all on-line properties
- lead and mentor web development team members of various units
utilizing a ‘team approach’ across the program’s collaborative activities
- track and report on all site metrics
- work with NCDC IT to ensure hosting best practices;
- other related duties as assigned

Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or
related discipline and one year of experience in the information
technology field related to the area of assignment; or bachelor’s degree
and one year of experience in the information technology field related
to the area of assignment; or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science,
Information Technology, or related discipline; or an equivalent
combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.


The Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites (CICS) is a
research institute formed through a consortium of academic, non-profit
and community organizations with leadership from the University of
Maryland, College Park (UMCP) and North Carolina State University (NCSU)
on behalf of the University of North Carolina (UNC) System. CICS
provides foci for collaborative research and associated activities in
support of NOAA mission goals related to meteorological satellite and
climate data and information research and development.
