The Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a tenure track position in Climate and Society at the assistant or associate professor level. Candidates must have a Ph.D., broad experience at the climate society interface, and an outstanding research record in one or more of the following areas: low carbon development pathways, climate resilient development, integration of mitigation and adaptation, international mitigation or adaptation policy and planning, and climate compatible international development. Expertise in one of the following topics would be an added advantage: integrated assessment modelling, climate finance, aviation, climate engineering policy, North American and Canadian climate policy.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in the new Masters in Climate Change program, as well as climate/environmental management related undergraduate courses in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management in the Faculty of Environment.
The Department of Geography and Environmental Management has a strong reputation for teaching and research in both the human and physical dimensions of climate change. It is part of the Faculty of Environment, which also includes the Department of Environment and Resource Studies, the School of Planning, the School for Environment Enterprise and Development, and the Centre for Knowledge Integration. The anticipated starting date is January 1, 2013 or later. Applications must include statements of career objectives, research interests, and the applicant’s approach to teaching and learning. Applicants must include with the letter of application a C.V. and the names (with contact information) of four referees. Referees will be contacted for those included in the short list after an initial review of applications that will commence on August 31, 2012 and continue until the position is filled. The appointment is subject to budgetary approval.
