Director of the DRI Weather Modification Program

Assistant/Associate Research Professor

The Division of Atmospheric Sciences of the Desert Research Institute is seeking a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Research Professor level to serve in a leadership position for the ongoing and successful weather modification service program (http://www.dri.edu/cloudseeding). The successful candidate will need to have sufficient experience to play a leadership role in the operational and managerial aspects of ongoing and potential future projects involved in glaciogenic cloud seeding of winter storms over mountainous terrain.  This includes outreach to seek funds for and report results of cloud seeding activities to state and local officials, water boards and commissions, and at public hearings.  The successful candidate will also be expected to initiate, conduct and publish results from cloud and climate research projects, some of which ideally are linked to the weather modification program.

Candidates must possess:

  • PhD in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science or related discipline.
  • Weather forecasting skill, particularly experience related to forecasting for field research projects.
  • Direct involvement in weather modification activities or related research.
  • Strong background or research experience in an area that is pertinent to either advertent or inadvertent weather modification.
  • Experience with project management; scientific, budgetary and personnel supervision.
  • Skill with public outreach; presenting and explaining technical activities and research to a wide variety of non-scientific audiences.

If this sounds like the opportunity for you, visit our website at http://www.jobs.dri.edu for a complete description, required qualifications, and how to apply online.  DRI is an EEO/AA employer.
