The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs.

A sea ice physicist is required to lead sea ice research at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS). The successful candidate will help develop and run a research programme building on existing work carried out within the Climate Processes work package. This group is responsible for an atmospheric instrumented aircraft that, together with the BAS ice-strengthened ships, has been successfully used in past sea ice field campaigns: these assets will form the basis for future fieldwork.

The successful candidate will be expected to seek external funding to develop and support this work and to cultivate national and international collaborations to further enhance their science. In addition, they will provide advice and collaboration on sea ice matters to other interested scientists and operations staff within BAS.
