Climate Projections Project Support Scientist at CSIRO CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research are seeking to appoint a motivated and experienced project support scientist to provide programming support for the development of climate change projections and the assessment of climate change impacts, risks, and vulnerabilities. CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research are seeking to appoint a motivated and experienced Project Support Scientist to join the Climate Variability and Change Program in the area of climate projections. This role will advance the science of regional climate projections, with a focus on Australia and the Pacific in the 21st century. The research will involve analysis of observed data and the outputs from global climate model simulations and regional downscaling simulations. The successful candidate will contribute to representing uncertainty in climate projections, and tailoring projection products to needs of users. They will collaborate with scientists in other disciplines as part of impacts, vulnerability and risk assessment projects. Specifically you will: Work closely with users of climate projection information and fellow scientists to identify priorities for regional projection science. Apply established techniques for evaluating climate model data and generating regional climate change projections. Collaborate on research projects in climate projection science. These will include projects aimed at providing novel climate change projection products for clients. Establish and maintain effective relationships with CSIRO scientists and other researchers in universities and the Bureau of Meteorology, to ensure effective delivery of science. Collaborate with scientists in other disciplines as part of impacts, vulnerability and risk assessment projects. Location: Aspendale, Victoria Salary: $55K - $70K plus up to 15.4% superannuation Reference: VIC12/01123 To be successful you will have: BSc (Hons) with major in climate science, or equivalent. Significant experience in the analysis of climate observations and or climate model results and their physical interpretation. Significant experience in application of mathematics and or statistics to scientific datasets and expertise in using and managing large scientific datasets. Experience with UNIX-based computers, well-developed programming skills in modern Fortran or similar languages, scripting languages such as Python, data archiving and experience with Microsoft Office software, statistical analysis software, and data visualisation software. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including the ability to document results and communicate effectively with colleagues and clients in order to meet project goals and timelines.
