European Project Manager and Scientific Liaison Officer

The Climate and Environmental Sciences Laboratory (LSCE) is a joint research unit of the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), CNRS and UVSQ, based in the Paris area. LSCE is a major research laboratory for climate science with 250 scientists, engineers and administrative staff from 30 nationalities. 

LSCE is strongly involved in several European projects to contribute to the scientific development of ICOS, a European research infrastructure (RI) dedicated to the monitoring of greenhouse gases with networks of stations across Europe. These projects aim to foster European and international coordination for environmental RIs, data management and improvement of the greenhouse gas monitoring systems.

We are currently seeking to recruit a 40-month full-time project manager and liaison officer to enhance the development of ICOS in Europe and internationally as well as manage EC-funded FP7 projects. This position includes both international research coordination and project management responsibilities. The general aim is to contribute to the on-going establishment of ICOS as a leading international RI and environmental data provider.

Responsibilities

As a Scientific Liaison Officer, this person will have the responsibility of liaising on behalf of the cluster of Environmental Research Infrastructures (ENVRI) with various key international initiatives, notably with the intergovernmental Group on Earth Observation, and other RI and environmental monitoring networks and infrastructures. This will include animating the ENVRI liaison group, a central forum for environmental RIs gathering high level representatives from European infrastructures.

As a Project Manager, this person will be responsible for several aspects of the day to day management of ICOS-INWIRE European project management, including:

  • Monitoring the progress of designated tasks with the consortium members institutions across Europe.
  • Organization of the General Assemblies and progress meetings
  • Coordination of scientific and budget reporting to the European Commission
  • Develop project outreach and liaison with stakeholders and other relevant initiatives and infrastructures related to greenhouse gas measurements.

Qualifications

  • Engineering, scientific or project management degree (PhD or Master’s degree with experience);
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of the French language is an asset,
  • Knowledge of project management tools and software suite such as MS Office,
  • Team player, good communicator and autonomous,

 The position is opened for 40 months including an initial 10-month contract with an additional contract for a duration of 30 months.
