The Climate Service Center in Hamburg (Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht) invites
Two Scientific researchers m/f
code-no. 2012/CSC 1
in the EU projects PEGASOS and IMPACT2C. These are fixed-term positions
until 30th September 2015. The place of work is Hamburg.
You will work in an interdisciplinary team of international researchers.
The project aims at improving the understanding of the interactions of
climate and atmospheric chemistry under the influence of aerosols.
The results will be translated into concrete policy recommendations for
European countries. Your duties in the project will include the modeling
of those interactions with the regional climate model REMO-HAM,
concentrating on the interactions with and without aerosol feedbacks.
The aim of the project is the assessment of the possible impacts of a 2
degree temperature increase on different socio-economic sectors in
different regions in and outside of Europe. Your task will be to conduct
regional climate simulations with the regional climate models REMO and REMO-NH,
which will serve as a basis for the assessment of risks and vulnerabilities
for the different regions and sectors.
You will also contribute to the analysis of the model results.
Both positions require strong communication skills.
The candidate should have the ability to communicate with the scientific partner
institutes as well as with members of other scientific and non-scientific disciplines
- Master or Diploma in Physics, Meteorology, or a related discipline,
with good to very good academic grade.
- Experience and expertise in climate, climate modeling, meteorology,
aerosol physics and atmospheric chemistry - good unix/linux knowledge
- experience with scientific data formats (netcdf, grib)
- ideally experience with large data amounts and large-capacity computers
- good communication skills
- ability to work independently and to present the results
- Good knowledge in spoken and written English and ideally also in German.
We offer an appropriate salary related to TV-AVH as well as the usual public sector
