Please, find attached a very nice job opportunity in Chile ...

Faculty Position in Physical Oceanography in the Department of Geophysics, University of Concepción, Chile.

The Department of Geophysics of University of Concepcion invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Physical Oceanography to be filled from the 1st of August, 2012. Preference will be given to candidates working in observational oceanography although candidates from other areas (e.g. theoretical, numerical) will also be considered.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the Department's high level of research activity, to develop and maintain national and international links in association with projects in physical oceanography, to teach courses at the undergraduate level and to supervise undergraduate, masters and doctoral thesis students. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in physical oceanography, physics or a related field and will have carried out high quality research as evidenced by research publications. Ideally, the candidate will conduct research in an area that will compliment or extend the Department's areas of interest in physical oceanography.

It is expected that the candidate will create, design and implant courses associated with his/her area of expertise, aimed at students who already have basic mathematical and geophysical training. We would like the candidate to speak/learn Spanish; however it is possible to conduct courses in either English or Spanish, depending on the level of comfort in the language.

The review of the applications will begin on the 1st of May, 2012, and continue until the position is filled. Part of the application process will involve an interview in person (national) or in a video conference (international) for the prospective candidate.

Applicants should send a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a statement of intent, two letters of reference and copies of their most significant research to or to Departamento de Geofísica, Universidad de Concepcion, Casilla 160-C, Concepción, Chile.
