Subject: Position in Climate Risk Management, University of Auckland

The University of Auckland invites applications for the Ockham
Lectureship or Senior Lectureship in Climate Risk Management, a joint
appointment between the School of Environment and the Department of
Physics in the Faculty of Science. The position has been made possible
by the Ockham Foundation, which is interested in supporting academic
research and training in the application of weather and climate science
to managing and reducing risk in weathed climate sensitive sectors of
society and the economy. The successful applicant will be expected to
participate in the development and delivery of a BSc Honours programme
in Climate Risk Management.

Applicants should hold a PhD in the atmospheric sciences or a related
field, with knowledge of how of weather and climate information is
generated over a range of time scales. Areas of interest to us include
stochastic forecasting, non-linear dynamics, or the evaluation of
uncertainty in climate physics and how the knowledge gained in these
areas leads to the assessment of risk. Applicants should have a clear
vision of how their research and teaching interests will contribute to
building the University of Auckland's profile in climate risk
management. Evidence of an ability to attract research funding, publish
in leading peer-reviewed journals, build research collaborations and a
willingness to engage with government and industry is highly desirable.
