This PhD position is part of the project ``Regional Decadal Predictability (DecReg)'', which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the framework of MiKlip (``Mittelfristige Klimaprognose'').
As member of the Earth System Modelling group of the IPA the candidate will work in with the newly developed one-way on-line coupled model system MECO(n) combining the two atmospheric chemistry climate models EMAC and COSMO-CLM/MESSy (www.messy-interface.org). The nominee will evaluate the dependency of the skill of a regional climate model prediction on the setup of the driving (global) model and on the coupling strategy.
We are looking for a candidate holding a university degree (master/diploma) in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Physics or a closely related discipline. Experience in a higher programming language (preferably Fortran90/95), in UNIX/Linux and in numerical modelling of atmospheric processes are advantageous. Interest in numerical modelling of dynamical and chemical processes in the atmosphere is a prerequisite.
