We like to announce a PhD Position at the Institute for Physics of the Atmosphere (IPA), Mainz, Germany

This PhD position is part of the project ``Regional Decadal Predictability (DecReg)'', which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the framework of MiKlip (``Mittelfristige Klimaprognose'').

As member of the Earth System Modelling group of the IPA the candidate will work in with the newly developed one-way on-line coupled model system MECO(n) combining the two atmospheric chemistry climate models EMAC and COSMO-CLM/MESSy (www.messy-interface.org). The nominee will evaluate the dependency of the skill of a regional climate model prediction on the setup of the driving (global) model and on the coupling strategy.

We are looking for a candidate holding a university degree (master/diploma) in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Physics or a closely related discipline. Experience in a higher programming language (preferably Fortran90/95), in UNIX/Linux and in numerical modelling of atmospheric processes are advantageous. Interest in numerical modelling of dynamical and chemical processes in the atmosphere is a prerequisite.

The position is limited to 3 years. A salary according to TV-L E13 (50 %) is paid. The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz is an equal opportunity employer and explicitly encourages applications from women. Among equally qualified applicants, disabled candidates will be given preference. For further information contact Ms. Dr. A. Kerkweg (kerkweg@uni-mainz.de, Tel.: +49 6131 3924144)

Applications with CV and 2-3 references should be sent via email to
Dr. A. Kerkweg (kerkweg@uni-mainz-de). Applications will be screened immediately until the position is filled.

Sincerely,
A. Kerkweg
