Call for graduate school positionsThe “Leibniz Graduate School for Clouds, Aerosol & Radiation: Mineral Dust” established by the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research e.V. and the University of Leipzig invites applications for 6 PhD studentship positions (65% TVL E13, according to German public service
regulation) focusing on following topics: - Polarization in remote sensing of non-spherical particles- Absorbing Aerosols: parameterization and effect on atmospheric dynamics and cloud properties - Indirect aerosol effect: diagnostics from combination of ground and satellite remote sensing data
- Heterogeneous chemistry at modified mineral dust surfaces - Heterogeneous ice nucleation and solid-state physics (2 positions)The Graduate school provides a structured Ph.D. education program within a period of 3 years. More information can be found on www.lgs-car.tropos.de.
Requirements for admission:- Very good Diploma or Masterʼs degree, preferable in meteorology, physics or chemistry - depending on the subject area of the PhD project - Very good knowledge and practical skills in remote sensing, cloud physics and cloud chemistry, nucleation theory, optics, NMR, numerical modelling of the atmosphere - depending on the subject area of the PhD project
- Experimental skills in field measurements and laboratory experiments - Programming skills (Unix-Shells, Fortran, Python) - Very good knowledge of English - Capacity for teamwork- High motivation to conclude the graduation within the given duration of 3 years
The Leibniz Institute for Atmospheric Research e.V. and the University of Leipzig seek to increase the percentage of women. Therefore, female researchers are especially encouraged to apply. Physically challenged applicants will be given preference if equally qualified.
Interested candidates should send their complete application documents in written form under the code „Graduate school mineral dust“ by 10 April 2012 to:
Mrs. Beate Richter, Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research e.V., Permoserstraße 15, 04318 Leipzig
For further information please contact the head of the Graduate School, Prof. Dr. Andreas Macke (firstname.lastname@example.org).
