[Met-jobs] Early Career Research Position at ENEA-CASPUR (Rome, Italy)

The Climate and Impact Modeling Lab at ENEA (the Italian government agency responsible for the areas of new technology, energy and sustainable development, www.enea.it) jointly with CASPUR (Italian inter-university center of excellence in computing technology, www.caspur.it) is launching new research efforts focused on frontier research on global scale climate variability, predictability and forecasts' application (http://utmea.enea.it/research/GLOBCLIMPRED).

Demand for reliable climate predictions and projections is increasing markedly and will further increase in the future, thus boosting novel and exciting research. To strengthen our global-scale climate research we seek a highly motivated early career researcher to join our modeling team based in Rome (Italy).

 

The successful applicant is expected to have a strong computational, mathematical and physical background. The position requires being familiar with Unix and Linux operating systems. Programming experience is required with development of Fortran90/95 numerical models and of parallelisation techniques (MPI, OpenMP); experience with Coupled General Circulation Models (CGCM) would be preferable. Familiarity with visualization and statistical analysis tools such as Grads, Matlab, NCL, R and IDL is appreciated.

Although not mandatory, Ph.D. degree in any relevant field (Climate or Earth system science, statistics, numerical modeling & super computing or a related discipline) would be highly valued.

 

The duration of the contract is initially for 1 year, with a possible extension up to further 3 years depending on results and funding availability. Initial annual salary is in the range 23K to 27K Euros, comprehensive of benefits, depending on qualification and experience.
