Job Description

Job title: Junior Meteorologist
Reports to: Senior Meteorologist

Company information

leader in the French market with a strong presence in the UK, Germany and 
Italy.  EDF Trading is the interface to the wholesale energy markets for EDF 
and its subsidiaries.

EDF Trading plays a key role in maximising the value of EDF Group’s large asset

for its market activities.  These assets include gas storage facilities, 
pipeline capacity, coal terminals, long-term coal supply contracts, a fleet of 
vessels, railcars, cranes and barges.

China, the United States and Canada.

Department
Power Trading 

Position purpose
Assist in the creation and presentation of weather forecasts and research 
weather conditions and patterns which affect trading

Main responsibilities
Provide analytical and meteorological support to the Senior Meteorologist and 
department
Create timely and accurate weather forecasts for global energy markets 
including temperature, precipitation and wind and communicate them clearly to 
traders
Work with analysts to research weather patterns and tools to advance 
forecasting edge
Play active role in routine verification of weather forecasts

Experience required
MSc, BSc or PHD in Meteorology is essential, with a minimum result of 2.2
Previous experience in a trading environment in a similar role would be 
beneficial but is not essential
A minimum of one year experience in weather forecasting or applied Meteorology 
in a professional work environment. The successful candidate must have 
extensive knowledge in forecasting for the whole of Europe and not just focused 
on one particular region

Technical requirements
Fluent in skilful interpretation of numerical model output
Advanced Excel skills
Good knowledge of statistics and their application on weather forecasting
Programming and modelling skills are desirable but not essential
Previous use of MATLAB would be beneficial

Excellent analytical skills
Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
