[Met-jobs] PhD Studentships at Lancaster Environment Centre

From Oliver Wild <>
Date Wed, 01 Feb 2012 11:38:42 +0000

The Lancaster Environment Centre at Lancaster University is advertising
NERC PhD studentships to start in October 2012. The list of projects on
offer is available at:

The studentships are competition-funded and open to UK and European students;
the application deadline is Sunday 26th February, and interviews will be
held in mid-March.

There are a number of projects related to atmospheric and climate processes,
and I would draw your attention to one project on the dispersal of volcanic
pollutants in the atmosphere which draws on Lancaster's strengths in
atmospheric science and in volcanology:

This project will focus on aggregation, mixing and deposition processes
in volcanic eruption clouds, and will involve development and application
of the WRF/Chem model. The aim is to improve our understanding of the
evolution of volcanic plumes and to build on and complement other volcano-
related atmospheric studies currently underway in the UK and the US.
The project will be supervised by Dr Jennie Gilbert and Dr Oliver Wild.
