Dear Met-jobs manager,

Can you please post the following on the list?
Thank you,

Gilles Bellon
Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques

====== Two-year post-doctoral fellowship at CNRM (Toulouse, France) =====

The Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques (Toulouse, France)
invites application for 2-year post-doctoral position on tropical climate
variability.

The subseasonal variability of tropical precipitation
(convectively-coupled gravity waves, Madden-Julian Oscillation) is poorly
simulated by most general circulation models. The goal of this post-doc is
to diagnose which aspects of this variability are reproduced, or not, by
the state-of -the-art general circulation models in different
configurations, and to understand how the biases can be related to the
mechanisms at play in each model, and in particular the
convection-dynamics feedbacks.
The successful applicant is expected to analyze the variability of
tropical convection at subseasonal timescales in the recent CMIP5
simulations, and to investigate the mechanisms of this variability in
different model configurations (coupled ocean-atmosphere, atmosphere-only,
and aquaplanet). Aquaplanet simulations will be a focus of the projected
work, and the successful applicant will be responsible for designing new
aquaplanet simulations in coordination with other European modelling
groups.

Applicants must have a PhD in atmospheric sciences or a related science.
Skills in data analysis and climate modelling will be appreciated.

The position is funded by the European project EMBRACE that aims at
improving the existing components of Earth System Models. The salary will
be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Applicants are asked to submit a vitae, a statement of research experience
and interests, and names and contact information of at least two academic
references to Dr. Gilles Bellon (gilles.bellon@meteo.fr). Applications
sent before March 31st will receive full consideration. Starting date can
be as soon as June 1st,, 2012. For additional information about the CNRM,
please visit www.cnrm.meteo.fr. Questions on this job opening should be
directed to Gilles Bellon.
