Specifically, a particle filter with 4DVar particles will be developed and tested in a suite of atmospheric models. You will be stationed at the University of Reading and work closely with scientists from the ECMWF to implement the method in simple to more complex models like two-layer quasi-geostrophic models. If successful we will try to work on the full operational model. Experience in computational fluid dynamics would be an advantage.
