Meteorological Technician

Level 7

The University of Delaware's Delaware Environmental Observing System
(DEOS) is seeking applicants for the position of Meteorological
Technician for DEOS. This position provides a unique opportunity to
contribute to the development of an automated environmental monitoring
network designed to serve the State of Delaware, Chester County in
Pennsylvania, and the surrounding Delmarva Peninsula. This is a
grant-funded position and continuation is contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities include installing and maintaining environmental
monitoring stations across Delmarva. Travel to remote sites using a
DEOS vehicle. Install and test sensors and electronic equipment at new
and existing installations. Troubleshoot and repair/replace failed
sensors and electronic equipment as needed with possible emergency
management deadlines.

Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree in meteorology,
atmospheric science, or other job-related discipline with two years of
experience in electronics or field work in meteorological data analysis
or instrumentation. Related progressive experience beyond a high school
diploma or GED may be substituted for required education or additional
related education may be substituted for required experience.
Successful applicant must be able to communicate effectively and
interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
Employment requires a valid driver's license (Class D). Applicants must
be able to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 60 lbs), climb ladders
and communications towers (up to 30 feet), and to work outdoors with
regular exposure to adverse weather conditions.
