Forwarded from CLIMLIST... Climate and Statistics Postdoctoral Fellow This is a new, full-time two year term position. Applications for this position will be accepted on a continuous basis until the position is filled. NCAR - Computational and Information Systems Laboratory (CISL) Institute for Mathematics Applied to the Geosciences (IMAGe) BASIC JOB FUNCTION: Performs analysis of the climate model output from the North American Regional Climate Change Assessment Program (NARCCAP) related to projects regarding adaptation to climate change. Performs statistical downscaling of global climate models involved in NARCCAP. (<http://www.narcaap.ucar.edu>) Participates in determination of how to weight different models for use in developing a Bayesian probabilistic model of regional climate change. DUTIES INCLUDE: Contributes to determination of credibility of regional and sub-regional results of climate model simulations of the program and related projects. Performs statistical downscaling of global models used in NARCCAP for specific locations and performs trend analysis of temperature and precipitation observations. Interacts with all groups related to adaptation planning for climate change and other data analysts involved in the program. Participates in research development with internal and external collaborators across disciplines. Communicates research results through publication in peer-reviewed journals, meeting proceedings and presentations at scientific meetings. REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: Education and Experience: Ph.D. degree in atmospheric sciences/climatology or related sciences; including course work in advanced statistics, multivariate statistics, advanced regression methods and/or Bayesian analysis. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong quantitative skills. Knowledge of synoptic dynamics. In-depth knowledge of climate processes and dynamics with particular knowledge of climate of North America. Experience in analyzing climate model results. Demonstrated record of research and publication. Ability to participate in and interact productively with climate modeling research groups, statisticians and climate dynamicists at NCAR and among the project partners. Familiarity with UNIX and data analysis software, NCL, R and/or Matlab. Strong skills in written and oral communication of research results. DESIRED (but not required): Knowledge of global and regional climate models. Knowledge of climate of North America. Familiarity with NCL, R, and/or MatLab.
