Associate Hydrologist

Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES)

Thailand

Position Description:


The Associate Hydrologist, reporting to the Team Leader – Hydrology, develops hydrological/ hydrodynamic model for the South Asian region; supports the development of data analysis and management modules for hydro-meteorological and societal impact assessments, quantitative assessment of climate change impacts on water-related activities at the basin scale, and development of flood risk index and risk maps; and develops training manuals on flood forecasting and integrated water resource management.

 

Duty Station:  RIMES Regional Facility, Asian Institute of Technology campus, Pathumthani, Thailand

 

Type of Contract: One-year project-based contract, renewable

 

Remuneration and Benefits:

·       Monthly base salary from USD 1,700 net of tax; negotiable, commensurate with qualifications

·       Housing allowance

·       Health, life insurance

 

Minimum Qualifications:


Knowledge:

Master’s degree in
hydrology, hydrodynamics, or physics, with advanced knowledge on hydrologic modeling and impact analysis; comprehensive understanding of hydrology, climate change science, and geoinformatics; advanced statistical background (e.g. PCA, etc.)

Experience:


At
least 5 years experience handling large-scale analysis data sets and in hydrological and hydrodynamic modeling; experience in working in FORTRAN programming, Unix/Linux operating systems; well versatile with advance Arc Hydrology; familiarity with statistical graphing
packages


Skills and Abilities:


Demonstrated applied research skills; excellent English proficiency in communication, presentation, and report writing; ability to produce

technical reports on deadline; ability to prepare technical publications for scientific journals; ability to simplify and summarize complex

technical information for public presentation


Personal Qualities:

Excellent inter-personal skills; strong desire to learn and undertake new challenges; a creative problem-solver; willingness to work hard
and for long hours and under pressure; willingness to travel under sometimes adverse conditions
