We are seeking an individual with a strong background in mathematics
and physics to join a Bangor University/ Reading University team
studying the role of Langmuir circulation and inertial shear spikes in
driving mixing within and below the surface mixed layer of the ocean.
The team are part of the NERC OSMOSIS Consortium. The investigations
will involve collection and analysis of time series water column data
and the testing of parameterisations being developed for
implementation in state-of-the-art numerical models.

The appointee will be directly involved in both the observational work
at sea and in the interpretation of both observational and modelled
time series data. Ideally, he/she will have a PhD in Physical
Oceanography although candidates from other physical science
backgrounds will be considered. The appointee will join the 8 strong
Turbulence and Mixing group, which includes Prof John Simpson and Prof
Steve Thorpe FRS, based at the School of Ocean Sciences
(www.sos.bangor.ac.uk). The School, which is among the largest
university Marine Science centres in Europe, has a strong tradition of
seagoing research and teaching which is facilitated by ready access to
the University?s purpose-built research vessel, the Prince Madog.

The successful candidate will be expected to start 01st February 2012
(or as soon as possible thereafter) and this post is available for a
period of 3 years.

Please quote reference number 11-11/101 when applying.

Closing date for applications: 1.00 p.m. Tuesday 03 January 2012.
