The Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research invites
highly qualified persons to apply for a Helmholtz Earth System Science

This appointment is part of an initiative of the Alfred Wegener
Institute for Polar and Marine Research, Bremerhaven; Institute for
Environmental Physics, University of Bremen; and Jacobs University
Bremen, School of Engineering and Science.

The new approach of the Research School is to combine physical,
biogeochemical and biological research. Applications are welcome from
scientists with strong expertise in the main scientific objectives of
Earth System Science. The research topics should either focus on earth
system modeling, data analysis and interpretation in an
interdisciplinary context of the Alfred Wegener Institute.

Qualifications needed are a completed university education in physics,
geophysics, meteorology, oceanography, geology, geo-biology or an
equivalent field, a related PhD as well as other scientific
achievements. To be successful you will have:
. A PhD degree in science or engineering
. Scientific creativity shown by a track record of original and
innovative research
. Effective written and oral communication skills, including
demonstrated experience in publishing papers in scientific journals and
presenting materials at workshops, scientific conferences and to more
general audiences.

Severly disabled applicants with essentially identical technical and
personal suitability will be preferentially selected. The AWI is an
equal opportunities employer. The AWI supports balanced work-life career
development via a variety of alternatives. In Bremerhaven, the AWI
operates its own nursery. Basic knowledge in the German language is
advantageous.
