We are currently seeking an experienced scientist or engineer to join our Coastal Risk Management team.  The focus of this team is the marine environment and its risks (flooding, erosion) and opportunities (engineering, tidal stream and wave technologies).  Our team has a strong focus on R&D and the development of innovative analysis and modelling techniques.

The successful candidate for this post will be expected to undertake analytical and modelling work related to coastal flooding and forecasting.  Report writing and some project management will also be required.  The successful candidate will be based in our Skipton office.

Qualifications and Experience:

Applicants are expected to have a BSc or MSc in Oceanography, Engineering or a relevant Geo-science.  Applicants should have a strong scientific background gained through a relevant degree and preferably previously held professional positions.  Knowledge or experience with respect to some or all of the following will be advantageous:

●          Numerical modelling (e.g., sediment transport modelling, flood inundation, wave transformation, wave overtopping, water quality);

●          Extreme sea level and wave analysis;

●          Coastal flood defence design and engineering;

●          Coastal geomorphology;

●          Flood forecasting;

●          Climate change;

●          Wave and tidal-stream energy technology.

Of particular importance for this position is experience with respect to wave transformation and wave overtopping modelling.

JBA Consulting is a heavily client focused organisation.  Excellent report writing and effective communication skills are therefore essential to this role.  Self motivation and a high degree of organisation are also essential.

A competitive salary is available together with a comprehensive benefits package including personal pension, life insurance, medical assistance, subsidised permanent health insurance, child care vouchers, medical/dental care assistance and profit share.

The post holder will be entitled to between 20 and 23 days holiday per year (depending on experience) rising to 25 after qualifying service, plus statutory holidays.
