The Institute of Environmental Physics and Remote Sensing at the University
of Bremen ( ) is looking for a
PostDoc (TVL 13, 100%), starting on January 1st, 2012 for the duration of
three years in the field of

                                Satellite Remote Sensing of Tropospheric
Constituents and Integration with Model Results

The Institute of Environmental Physics at the University of Bremen has been
working on remote sensing of atmospheric composition from satellite
observations since 1995. The method used here is based on the Differential
Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) of scattered sunlight and allows the
determination of global maps of tropospheric trace gases such as NO2, SO2,
or HCHO.

In the framework of the EU project MACC-II (
), IUP Bremen will validate results from several atmospheric models with
independent satellite observations. In addition, model data will be
incorporated as a priori information into the data analysis in order to
improve retrievals on data from instruments such as SCIAMACHY and GOME-2,
and to facilitate synergistic interpretation of results. This work builds on
existing data, algorithms and results, and will be executed in close
collaboration with other members of the working group.

* A PhD and Master or Diploma in Physics or a related discipline
* Experience in at least one higher programming language
* Interest in data analysis and atmospheric research
* Good knowledge in spoken and written German and / or English
* Good knowledge and experience in at least one of the following fields:
physics and chemistry of the atmosphere, remote sensing of atmospheric
composition, radiative transfer, inversion theory, atmospheric modelling

The Institute of Environmental Physics offers a friendly working atmosphere
and excellent working environment. The position is integrated into the
SCIAMACHY project and the interdisciplinary and international MACC-II
project ( ).

More information on the institute and the DOAS group can be found at and .

As the University of Bremen intends to increase the proportion of female
employees in science, women are particularly encouraged to apply. In case of
equal personal aptitudes and qualification priority will be given to
disabled persons.
