The Position

An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified person with
strong computing skills to work on problems affecting the
Australia-Pacific region. Initially, the work will focus on dynamical
downscaling of the climate system to provide projected changes in the
characteristics of tropical cyclone events for the Pacific-Australia
Climate Change Science and Adaptation Program (PACCSAP).

The successful applicant will support the development and use of high
resolution atmospheric models (RAMS and WRF initially) to downscale
reanalysis data for benchmarking purposes prior to downscaling control
and changed climate simulations. The position will support technical
modifications to the model codes and the development of a common,
user-friendly analysis platform for the outputs from these and other
models.

The position will be based at Aspendale, Victoria, as part of the Centre
for Australian Weather and Climate Research (CAWCR) – a partnership
between CSIRO and the Bureau of meteorology.
Location:  Aspendale, Victoria
Salary:      $73K - $82K per annum plus 15.4% superannuation

Tenure:     2 year term
To be successful you will have a:
•       B.Sc. (Hons) with a major in computing or physical sciences, or
equivalent relevant experience.
•       Demonstrated experience solving technical computing problems
associated with climate and numerical climate simulation.
•       Experience with UNIX-based computers, highly-developed programming
skills in Fortran 90 or similar languages, data visualisation software,
netCDF and UNIX shell scripting
