[Met-jobs] PhD Studentship at Lancaster Environment Centre

From Oliver Wild <>
Date Wed, 12 Oct 2011 13:33:54 +0100

The Lancaster Environment Centre at Lancaster University is advertising
one additional NERC PhD studentship to start in January 2012. The list
of projects on offer is available at:

This studentship is competition-funded and open to UK and European students;
the application deadline is Friday 11th November, and interviews will be
held at the end of November.

I would draw your attention to one project on the dispersal of volcanic
pollutants in the atmosphere which draws on Lancaster's strengths in
atmospheric science and in volcanology:

This project will focus on aggregation, mixing and deposition processes
in volcanic eruption clouds, and will involve development and application
of the WRF/Chem model. The aim is to improve our understanding of the
evolution of volcanic plumes and to build on and complement other volcano-
related atmospheric studies currently underway in the UK and the US.
