[Met-jobs] Vacancy: Research Scientists/ Senior Research Scientists, Centre for Climate Research Singapore
Research Scientists/ Senior Research Scientists,
Centre for Climate Research Singapore
The Centre for Climate Research Singapore is dedicated to the understanding of Southeast Asia’s complex tropical climate and weather systems. With core funding from the Singapore Government and affiliation with
the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS), the Centre is in an exciting start-up phase. The Centre aims to chart a course through the challenging area of climate science and modelling to better understand local and regional weather patterns and predict future
We are seeking research scientists with deep expertise in climate science and/or weather science to conduct the Centre’s niche research in modelling and predicting the tropical weather and climate of Singapore
and the wider Southeast Asia region.
The successful candidate will run regional climate models and apply statistical downscaling techniques to produce seasonal forecasts and long-term projections of the climate and sea level rise. Alternatively,
the candidate will develop or adapt a numerical weather prediction system, including performing data assimilation, to produce short to medium range forecasts at local and regional scales. Research to improve the understanding and prediction of convective weather
systems, the Asian Monsoons, Madden-Julian Oscillation and El Niño Southern Oscillation, all of which have an important bearing on the weather and climate of Southeast Asia, will be conducted. The candidate is required to have relevant experience in a national
meteorological centre or climate research centre, or in an academic setting.
