Forwarded from CLIMLIST... Research Assistantship Polar Climate and Meteorological Modelling Environmental Change Initiative Dept of Geological Sciences Brown University Research assistantships including tuition support and stipend are available for students interested in graduate study of Antarctic atmosphere-sea ice interactions using numerical models, satellite products and data analysis. The Antarctic ice sheet constitutes the largest reservoir of freshwater on earth, representing tens of meters of sea level rise if it was to melt completely. The Antarctic ice sheet mass balance is maintained in part by snowfall from synoptic and mesoscale cyclones. This research investigates the interactions between sea ice, land ice, and atmosphere that control the development of polar cyclones to better understand their role in moisture transport both now and in future climate scenarios. Assistantships are available to commence in January.
