Research Scientist in Arctic Predictability : ‘APPOSITE’ Project

Salary range:     Grade 6 (£27,428 to £35,788)

Grade 7 (£36,862)

 

Full time, fixed term up to 3 years

We require a motivated and qualified Research Scientist to be a key member of an international inter-comparison project to quantify the predictability of Arctic climate on seasonal to inter-annual timescales.

 

You will be also required to examine the physical mechanisms responsible for providing predictability in Arctic climate. Close collaboration with, and travel to, other international research institutes will be required.

 

You will have:

·         a PhD in the Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics or Numerical Modelling (or equivalent research experience)

·         a strong motivation for research and the clear potential to develop your own publications

·         good written and verbal communication skills

·         good computational skills and experience of a programming language such as Fortran, C, IDL or MATLAB

 

Experience with analysing output from coupled climate models and with coordinating scientific projects would be an advantage.
