The School of Earth Sciences is looking to appoint a highly skilled Research Assistant/Associate to be responsible for the further development and coordination of the Carbon Cycle Data Assimilation System (see http://www.ccdas.org). You will be part of a team further developing a world-leading system capable of quantifying terrestrial and oceanic sources and sinks of carbon dioxide through the assimilation of various data sources (atmospheric CO2 concentrations, satellite-derived vegetation cover, etc.) The aim of the project is to give a quantitative estimate with uncertainties of the future carbon sinks of the land and oceans. This estimate is urgently needed by policy makers to adequately plan greenhouse gas emission reductions. You will work as a researcher for the CARBOCHANGE project and will assist the Principal Investigator of CARBOCHANGE in Bristol in implementing an additional oceanic component, and proceed in developing prognostic capabilities for CCDAS. The post will initially be available for 19 months, with a likely extension to a total of 2.5 years. If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a permanent contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research experience. Further information can be found at http://www.bristol.ac.uk/jobs (Ref. 16542) Contact for informal enquiries: Dr M Scholze (email@example.com | +49 (0)40 42838 7746)
