Coupled Modelling Technical Support

The Position

CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research is seeking a motivated and
experienced technical support scientist to join the coupled modelling
team in the Earth System Modelling Program.

The position is to support the coupling together of components for the
new Australian Community Earth System Simulator (ACCESS) system, with
initial focus on the ocean, sea ice and atmospheric coupling. This
requires a high standard of software engineering, and the development of
user-friendly and robust methodologies for the setting-up and execution
of the coupled simulations. The position will also support technical
modifications to the atmospheric and oceanic codes relevant to the
coupling.

The position will be based at Aspendale, Victoria, as part of the Centre
for Australian Weather and Climate Research (CAWCR) - a partnership
between CSIRO and the Bureau of meteorology.

Location: Aspendale Victoria, Australia
Salary: $73K - $82K per annum plus up to 15.4% Superannuation
Ref No: VIC00824
Tenure: Indefinite/Ongoing

To be successful you will have a:
. B.Sc. (Hons) with major in computing or physical sciences, or
equivalent relevant experience
. Demonstrated experience solving technical computing problems
associated with the development and use of large scale numerical models
. Highly developed skills in Fortran 90 (preferred) or C++ programming
and UNIX shell scripting.
. Ability to work flexibly and independently as well as part of a team
and to form and maintain effective working relationships with a range of
colleagues and collaborators.

About CSIRO
Australia is founding its future on science and innovation. Its national
science agency, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research
Organisation (CSIRO), is a powerhouse of ideas, technologies and skills
for building prosperity, growth, health and sustainability. It serves
governments, industries, business and communities.

This position is part of the Centre for Australian Weather and Climate
Research (CAWCR), a partnership between CSIRO and the Bureau of
Meteorology, which is leading development of an Earth systems model
known as the Australian Community Earth System Simulator (ACCESS) for
application across a range of time scales from numerical weather
prediction to climate change projection. The model includes atmosphere,
ocean, sea ice and land-surface components, and will include an
interactive carbon cycle, and eventually provide for the modelling of
the interactions and feedbacks between human activities and the climate
system.
