Dear Colleagues,

We have a collaborative research on fire-climate-human interactions in
Southern California, and are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to
start as soon as possible. Please forward the ad below to anyone you know
of who may be qualified and

Postdoctoral researcher in fire-climate-vegetation-human interactions, the
University of California, Irvine

The Department of Earth System Science at the University of California,
Irvine (UCI) seeks a postdoctoral scholar to work on an interdisciplinary
study of the fires in southern California. The overall goal is to improve
understanding of how fire responds to climate change, vegetation dynamics,
and human activities. Example areas of scientific inquiry include, but are
not limited to, (1) investigating how vegetation, fire weather, and land
use control contemporary fires, and (2) modeling how fires and their
impacts in ecosystems are going to change in the future. This is a
collaborative research with colleagues at Jet Propulsion Laboratory and
University of California, Los Angeles.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in geography, ecology, or earth system
science. Previous experience in satellite remote sensing of fires, fire
emissions, analyzing fire impacts on terrestrial ecosystems, or
biogeography or dynamic vegetation modeling is desirable. Salary is
commensurate with experience. Appointments will be for an initial period
of one year with the likelihood of extension for additional years.

Questions about the position and applications should be sent to Dr. Yufang
Jin (, Dr. James Randerson (, or Dr.
Michael Goulden ( Formal applications should include a
cover letter describing your research experience and interests, a
curriculum vita, and the names of three references. Review of applications
will begin on August 1st, 2011, and will continue until the position is
