HPC Systems Engineer
NIWA (www.niwa.co.nz) is a leading environmental research institute and key provider of atmospheric, freshwater and marine research and consultancy services in New Zealand.
In early 2010 NIWA installed a new IBM p575/p6. This system is expected to increase to 107 p6 nodes in 2012. The High Performance Computing Facility (HPCF) is used to support NIWA's research activities in climate, weather, sea state, ocean and sea level modelling and forecasting, to support an operational environmental forecasting system - EcoConnect, and to support the HPC science needs of the wider New Zealand science community within the newly announced National eScience Infrastructure (NeSI) framework (http://www.nesi.org.nz).
We are seeking an HPC Systems Engineer capable of both operating a large High Performance Computing Facility, and able to provide support to both operations and to science users at the systems - science interface.
A tertiary qualification in computer science and/or other sciences or equivalent work experience is a must, along with five years' experience in the design, implementation and operation of Linux and/or Unix services. Familiarity with AIX and relevant HPC and storage management software (e.g., GPFS, CSM, TSM, TSM for Space Management, TWM LoadLeveler) would be advantageous.
