Research Meteorologist- Hydrometeorology Testbed

I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG), <www.imsg.com> a Federal Government
Contractor is seeking to fill a position supporting the
Hydrometeorological Prediction Center (HPC) of the National Centers for
Environmental Prediction (NCEP) located in Camp Springs, MD.  The
contractor will serve as a research scientist at the HPC as part of
NOAA's Hydrometeorology Testbed (NOAA HMT-HPC).  In this capacity the
incumbent will work with scientists within NOAA and partners outside of
NOAA to identify and evaluate promising techniques for improved weather
forecasts, work with HPC meteorologists to enhance the transition of
research to operations, and assist in the training of HPC staff in new
techniques and tools.  The incumbent will also work with other HMT-HPC
staff to publish results from studies in peer-reviewed journals.

Areas of particular need and interest to be addressed include the
forecasting of heavy precipitation associated with land-falling tropical
cyclones, warm-season convection, winter storms, and atmospheric rivers.
  Additional areas of focus include the use of ensemble model output and
forecaster generation of probabilistic products, as well as exploring
future roles of weather forecasters.

Duties:

Specific activities may include but are not limited to:
*Collaborate with partners in the NOAA HMT to transition research
performed elsewhere within the NOAA HMT into operations at HPC and other
NOAA offices. This will involve travel to Boulder, Colorado several
times per year.
*Develop training materials to transition new tools and techniques into
operations.
*Participate in planning activities with partners in other NOAA Testbeds.


Qualifications:
*BS or advanced degree in meteorology, hydrology or related earth
science fields (MS or above preferred)
*Extensive knowledge of weather forecasting, especially quantitative
precipitation forecasting
*Good knowledge on statistics and strong analytical skills
*Strong computer skills in Linux/Unix environment
*Strong communications skills in English, and a team player
*Desirable to have peer-reviewed publications
