[Met-jobs] Climate Predictions and Predictability Position at CMCC (Italy)

The Climate Variability and Predictability Group (SERC Division) at the
Centro Euro-Mediterraneo per i Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC), in Bologna
(Italy) invites applications for a position in climate dynamics and
modeling. The 2-year position ranges from post-doc to junior scientist
depending on the candidate profile

will be based at the Centro Euro-Mediterraneo per i Cambiamenti Climatici
in Bologna (Italy).

Work description: The successful candidate will be involved in the
investigation of the physical mechanisms underlying the predictability of
the global climate system, with a specific focus on the decadal and
inter-decadal time range, using data from the CMCC-CM coupled model and
other state-of-the-art climate models. In particular,  the role played by
several components of the climate system, including ocean circulation,
sea-ice and land surface, on the predictive skill of  climate models will
be analysed. Novel methodologies to improve the skill of decadal
predictions through appropriate initialization strategies will also be

Academic background and skills required: The ideal candidate should hold a
Ph.D. in ocean, atmosphere or climate sciences, or a related field.
Experience with climate models is required. Knowledge of statistical tools
for climate variability analysis is also desirable.

Selection and attribution criteria: Candidates? curriculum vitae with
emphasis on prior experience with similar issues (climate variability and
predictability). Programming skills (Fortran, Matlab/Grads, CDO/NCO or
equivalent tools) will be taken in high consideration, but major emphasis
will be placed on scientific independence, creativity and originality.
