Summary

RMS is seeking to add three additional PhD mathematical modellers to our London-based team, to work on the modelling of the risks due to tropical storms, extra-tropical storms, convective storms and storm surge.

RMS Background

RMS is the world's leading organisation dedicated to the quantification of the financial risk and impact of natural catastrophes, under both present and future climates. We employ several hundred people, and are growing rapidly. Our main clients are insurance and reinsurance companies, and we also work with banks, hedge funds, governments and multilateral agencies. The RMS team that models weather-related natural catastrophes, including tropical storms, extratropical storms, convective storms and floods, is based in London. It consists of roughly 35 PhD scientists with backgrounds in applied mathematics, meteorology, climatology, statistics, hydrology and engineering. We use a wide range of mathematical modelling tools, including numerical models of the ocean, atmosphere and land surface, and classical and Bayesian statistical methods.

Requirements

A background in meteorology, climate modelling, or similar, at PhD or above.

An analytical mindset and strong programming skills (e.g., Fortran, Python, R, scripting languages).

Experience of working on large data sets in a Linux/Unix environment.

Ability to work as part of a team.

If you are interested, please send an email, with a covering letter and CV, to london.recruiting@rms.com. Appropriate candidates will be invited for interview in London.

Many thanks,

Steve
