We have a vacancy for a post doctoral researcher in Earth observation. This research focuses on the improvement of the Met Office JULES land-surface model. JULES is written in Fortran 90, and calculates the fluxes of carbon, water and energy from the land to the atmosphere. The objective of the work is to improve the integration between the JULES model and satellite data. This will involve improving the calculation of absorption and scattering of solar radiation by the land surface vegetation in JULES. The job requires a PhD in Earth Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Geophysics, Physics, Computer Science, Geography or a related field. The candidate must have very good numerical skills and should be familiar with optimization and inversion techniques, and statistical analysis. It is essential that the candidate is proficient in at least 1 computer language, preferably Fortran 90 or C or C++. The position is for just under 2 years, and to start as soon as possible. Closing Date: for applications: 14 July 2011 Full details and application form are given on: http://www.swan.ac.uk/personnel/vacancies/research/posttitle,59181,en.php
