Forwarded from CLIMLIST... I'd like to draw your attention to the following 5 positions offered by the Meteorological Institute of the University of Bonn, in Bonn, Germany, and the Leibniz-Institute for Tropospheric Research, in Leipzig, as part of our contribution to the Hans Ertel Centre for Weather Research, a network of German research institutions and the German Meteorological Service (DWD). The Meteorological Institute of the University of Bonn and the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (IfT) are internationally renowned institutes in the field of atmospheric research and teaching. For their contribution to the Hans Ertel Centre for Weather Research of the German Weather Service (DWD), we are seeking highly qualified scientists for the following five positions: 1. Scale Space Tracking of precipitation cells (1 position for 3.5 years, 3/4 TV-L E13, located in Bonn) 2. High-resolution dual 3D observation-microphysics composites (1 Post-Doc for 3.5 years, TV-L E13, located in Bonn) 3. Satellite forward operators and inverse methods for the 3D composite (1 Post-Doc, 2 years, TV-L E13, located in Leipzig) 4. Ensemble methods and seamless prediction (1 Post-Doc, 3.5 years, TV-L E13, located in Leipzig) 5. High resolution data assimilation (1 Post-Doc, 2 years, TV-L E13, located in Bonn, preferred starting date: January 2013) The candidates should have a strong expertise in one or more of the following fields: • Remote sensing, especially in radar meteorology and satellite retrievals (1-4) • Computer vision, and tracking/motion estimation methods (1) • Ensemble methods, data assimilation, ensemble Kalman filter and numerical weather prediction (4, 5) We offer a creative and productive working atmosphere, and an interdisciplinary research topic which is carried out in close cooperation with DWD and other participating institutions of the Ertel Centre. The positions are subject to final approval by DWD, and the envisioned starting date is as soon as possible (except 5). The salaries are based on the German public servant's salary scale.
