Research Position in Climate Projections at Uni Bjerknes Centre

Uni Bjerknes Centre is a department of Uni Research AS and part of the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (BCCR). The BCCR is a national Centre of Excellence awarded by the Research Council of Norway in 2002 and a collaboration between Uni Research, the University of Bergen, the Institute for Marine Research and the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Centre.

We are now seeking a senior scientist in the global and regional climate projections research group. The ideal candidate will have a PhD degree in oceanography, fluid dynamics, applied mathematics, informatics or similar fields and is experienced in running and/or developing global climate models or related model expertise. Strong computing skills and a thorough knowledge of Unix and at least one programming language (preferably Fortran) are required. The senior scientist must have a research record in climate or related modeling, experience in generation and management of research projects as well as strong interpersonal and communications skills.

The BCCR climate projection research group is expanding and globally oriented, with recent projects addressing climate variability and change in South-East Asia and Africa, in addition to, in particular, the high northern latitudes. New long-term funding has established BCCR as the key Norwegian centre for climate research and projections. Our current model system consists of the fully coupled Norwegian Earth System Model (NorESM) and the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model for regional simulations. The successful candidate will be an essential member in the teams that develop, maintain, run and analyze the NorESM model.

The position is initially a three-year contract, but with strong possibilities for extension. Salary by agreement. Uni Research has comprehensive employee insurances and pension agreements and is an equal opportunity employer.

For further information please contact Dr. Michel d. S. Mesquita (michel.mesquita@uni.no, tel. +47 55 58 38 18) or Dr. Mats Bentsen (mats.bentsen@uni.no). More information about Uni Research and the BCCR can be found at http://uni.no and http://www.bjerknes.uib.no/.

Applications must be submitted in 3 copies, each with an overview of education and previous practice (CV), list of publications, certified copies of certificates and diplomas, as well as the names and addresses of 2 scientific references to:
