NCS_EMC_n04: Scientific Programmer Analyst – Interoperability Programmer
/ Software Development
IMSG, in collaboration with its team company SRG, is recruiting to hire
a Support Scientists for immediate to near future openings to support
the science and technical development under a multiyear NCEP Science
Support Services Contract.   This position will be located in Camp
Springs, MD.

Duties:
•       Assist in software development for NOAA’s Environmental Modeling
System (NEMS) to optimize computational performance, enhance portability
and promote incorporation of a broad variety of ESMF-compatible
applications; work scope includes (but is not limited to):
1.      Making NEMS applications and utilities portable across commonly used
super computer systems;
2.      Increasing scalability of operational code applications and improving
scripting structures for maximum use of computational resources;
3.      Increasing optimization of NEMS scientific components, component
couplers, and nested and coupled system performance;
4.      Supporting NEMS codes to advanced developers and enhance training on
advanced software engineering techniques for operational and research
supercomputers;
5.      Develop code standards in concert with NEMS developers;
6.      Work with developers to unify the codes under consistent standards;
•       Standardize and unify the full system after spinning up on current
capabilities;
•       Apply advanced technologies, such as GPU capabilities, for
experimental and operational codes (as appropriate); and
•       Support users in ongoing tasks of optimization, debugging and 
portability
Requirements:
•       PhD or MS degree in computer science, software engineering and
development, atmospheric science, physics, numerical modeling, or
related fields
•       Extensive experience in coding and optimization of models on several
parallel systems
•       Direct relevant experience is highly desirable
