The Meteorological Institute at the Rheinische
Friedrich‐Wilhelms‐Universität Bonn and the Institute for Geophysics und
Meteorology at the University of Cologne invite applications for

4 PhD Graduate Research Assistantships

The joint project Retrospective Analysis of Regional Climate for Use in
Climate Change Analysis (Phase I: German Reanalysis Project) funded by
the Hans Ertel Centre for Weather Research programme offers the
following PhD positions:

   1. Disaggregation of precipitation data for regional reanalyses (1PhD
      Bonn)
   2. Transfer functions for near surface temperatures for regional
      reanalyses (1PhD Bonn)
   3. Verification of regional reanalyses by various remote sensing data
      (1 PhD Cologne)
   4. Potential of microwave radiances for evaluation and data
      assimilation (1PhD Cologne)

Applicants should have a Master of Science equivalent university degree
in meteorology, geophysics, physics or mathematics. Experience in
numerical weather prediction, data assimilation, spatial statistical
modeling, forecast verification or/and satellite data analysis is highly
welcome. In addition, programming experience in Fortran90, C and/or R
Statistical Programming Language and familiarity with UNIX or Linux
operating systems is highly desirable.
