        Sentinel-4 Science Product Coordinator [ J2200]

        With responsibility for the definition of Sentinel-4 data products and the development of geophysical algorithms for Sentinel-4 including potential synergistic algorithms. Ideally, he/she also monitors the system performance budget up to and including the commissioning phase.

Responsibilities / Duties
        Performing the following main tasks:
·       Coordinate the definition and development of algorithms to be used in the conversion of calibrated engineering data (Level 1b data) to geophysical parameters (Level 2 data)

1       Initiate, manage and monitor the development of the Sentinel-4 mission simulator
2       Initiate, manage and monitor the development of the Level 2 prototype processor, including
·       Initiate and monitor the definition of the scientific retrieval algorithms

·       Support the definition of the ground segment requirements and interface requirements, regarding Level 1 / Level 2 processor implementation and data distribution to the GMES end users

1       Contribute to the preparation, planning and execution of the instrument commissioning and routine operations activities including the In-orbit Verification Phase and Calibration and Validation activities

2       Monitor the Sentinel-4 mission performance during commissioning phase (note: the monitoring of the Sentinel-4 mission performance during the operational phase is envisaged)   
Qualifications / Experience
        Higher University Degree in Atmospheric Science or remote sensing (or the equivalent).

Demonstrated experience in atmospheric science, with strong knowledge in atmospheric chemistry/composition

Strong fundamental background in atmospheric physics

Essential Skills
        Knowledge on remote sensing principles, retrieval techniques, error assessment, data assimilation principles
Expertise in retrieval from solar backscatter instruments
Familiarity with the GMES Space Component Programme
Familiarity with EUMETSAT and operational meteorological satellite programmes
Familiarity with Level 1 and Level 2 processing of atmospheric composition observations
(Strong) Experience in setting up (pre-)operational processing systems in an inter-agency context


        Able to work independently and in teams
Good organisational, management and communication skills
Fluent in the English language

Further Details Location of Post and Project Reporting Interface

In performing these tasks, he/she will work in the Atmospheric Section of the Mission Science Division in close coordination with the Sentinel-4 Mission Scientist. He/she will establish a working interface with other members of the Sentinel-4 Project team and will report results of the activities directly to the Sentinel-4 Project Manager. For the mission simulator activities, he/she will be supported by D/TEC staff.
