Offering outstanding career development and professional support Come, join Australia's premier science & technology research organisation The Position: We are seeking to appoint a scientist to join the Climate Variability and Climate Change Program in the area of climate diagnostics, and climate change detection and attribution, focusing on the South Australia region. The position arises from the newly established research programme ?Goyder Institute? ? a research alliance between the South Australia Government, universities, and CSIRO through its National Flagship- Water for a Healthy Country. The Goyder Institute will provide leadership and direction in Water Sciences Research to address policy outcomes for the South Australian Government. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your skills to make a real impact - working towards improving Australia's climate and environment! Location: Aspendale, VIC Salary: $73k - $80k pa + up to 15.4% superannuation Tenure: 3 year fulltime term Reference Number: 2010/779 Specifically you will: Document and manipulate data sets for research in climate detection and attribution in the South Australia region. Undertake a broad range of tasks of high complexity, including statistical analysis of time series and spatial patterns of climate and environmental data, to understand key climate drivers affecting South Australia climate. Benchmark climate models in terms of their simulation of associated mechanisms and impacts of climate drivers. To be successful you will have: A PhD or equivalent in climate(oceanography/meteorology), climate modeling, or environmental data processing and analysis, or related field. Experience in running various configurations of ocean and atmosphere models for understanding mechanisms/processes, and in handling large climate datasets in various formats (e.g., NetCDF, HDF5, GRIB, ASCII. Strong ability in writing computer programs and in data analysis method/approach and techniques. The position will be based at Aspendale, Victoria, as part of the Centre for Australian Weather and Climate Research (CAWCR) ? a partnership between CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology.
