[Met-jobs] Entry level hydrologic forecaster

From Roger Brugge <>
Date Thu, 10 Jul 2003 13:57:51 +0100

The National Weather Service (NWS) Northeast River Forecast Center
(NERFC) located in Taunton, Massachusetts is pleased to announce a job
opening for an entry level hydrologic forecaster.

The NERFC is responsible for river forecasting at over 100 locations
throughout New England and New York. We are currently in the process
of calibrating all of our forecast operations. In addition, projects
may include assisting in implementing new workstation technology, use
of GIS tools, software development, use of radar estimated
precipitation as well as numerous other hydro-meteorolgical topics.
Our home page is located at

Working with the NWS provides some unique opportunities for those
interested in hydrology. The NWS is one of the few opportunities for
performing real-time hydrologic forecasting. As the agency
responsible for issuing flood warnings, the opportunities for
providing public service within the NWS are not available elsewhere.

Normal office hours are from 6:30 am to 11 pm, 7 days per week.
However, during periods of flooding, hours may be extended to handle
round-the-clock coverage. Being available to work rotating shifts in
this manner is essential.

This position is being advertised as a GS-9, 11, and 12 position with
starting salaries varying from $40,487 to $59,234 based on experience
and academic background.

Copies of the vacancy announcement can be found at:

for the GS-9 level,

for the GS-11 level and,

for the GS-12 level.

Please note that the online applications must be submitted by July 21.
Also, applicants must be US citizens.

Taunton is located in southeast Massachusetts, just off I-495 and is
less than an hour from Providence, Boston, and Cape Cod.

If you know of anyone who would be interested in such a position,
please make them aware of this announcement. If there are any
questions, they may call Gregg Rishel at (508) 824-5116
